Program Description for the Biostatistics track

The mission of the new PhD in Health and Biomedical Data Science program with a Biostatistics concentration is to train the next generation of leaders in public health and medicine. It is a 72-credit degree program administered by the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in the Milken Institute School of Public Health. Students in the program develop innovative statistical and computational methods for data analysis and for deriving new scientific discoveries in the public health and biomedical sciences.The program takes advantage of the rich biostatistical and bioinformatics resources at GWU and in the Nation’s Capital and is designed to prepare students to be independent researchers in the development of methodologies and effective collaborators in interdisciplinary studies. 

 

Program Description for the Bioinformatics track

The new PhD in Health and Biomedical Data Science program with a Bioinformatics concentration is an interdisciplinary doctoral program offering focused training that integrates concepts in health, biology, statistics, and computer science. It is a 72-credit degree program administered by the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in the Milken Institute School of Public Health.  The program develops and integrates skills across the core competency areas in bioinformatics. Students attracted to this program have interests in computer science, statistics, and biology and find it an excellent choice for their broad interests and research expertise with applications in health and environment through the use of data science. Students who complete this program will be primed for employment in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or software development companies as well as to pursue academic and or consulting careers.
